Joseph A. Sims Jr. was born in Essington, PA and moved to the area in 1972 with his

parents. Joseph attended St. Raymond’s School and Lower Cape May Regional High

School graduating in 1984. After his junior year of high school, Joseph entered the New

Jersey Army National Guard and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Following

Basic Training, he came back to Lower Cape May Regional to finish his high school

education. After graduation, Joseph reported to Fort Lee, VA to attend AIT (Advanced

Individual Training). Joseph served with the NJARNG out of Cape May Court House

from 1983-1987. Joseph then went on to work for the State of New Jersey as a Bridge

Operator and has worked for the NJDOT since 1988, working on numerous bridges

from Wildwood to Bass River. Also, in 1988 he became a member of the Rio Grande

Rescue Squad, where is currently the Assistant Chief and Life Member. Since becoming

an EMT with Rio Grande Rescue Squad, he has proudly served as Past President

(1997) and Past Chief (2006) and continues to serve the residents of Middle Township

and surrounding communities. Since 1997, Joseph has also worked part time for the

Township of Middle as an EMT for their EMS Department. Joseph also served for two

years with the Cape May County Fire Police from 2008-2010.

Joseph enjoys riding his Harley in his spare time and has been a member of Cape Classics

M/C since 1997, serving as Secretary for two years. Joseph is also an Active Member in

the Red Knights M/C out of Cape May County, NJ and has participated in many toy runs

and benefits. Joseph also enjoys camping with his friends new and old and fishing the

back bays.
