Joseph "AJ" Modig attended San Diego State University. He was born in Spokane Washington, and raised mostly in Alaska. He traveled alot in his teen years and finaly setteled in San Diego in 1986 after sailing back from Hawaii with Captain John Wintersteen on the return from transpac 1986. He discovered that sports were his passion as a young teen and high school student making the varsity swim team in his fresmen where he lettered that year and lettered at 3 schools in his sophmore year as a result of his desire for travel and to swim.
