Many people think that this agreement only serves the agent and makes sure that they are paid, when in fact it which serves both you and the real estate agent. If you do not sign the agreement, the agent does in fact work for the seller, and NOT you, the buyer. The agent may not advise you on what price to offer and may not negotiate on your behalf; two of the most important skills when buying a property.
These agreements do not have to be signed for 6 months, they can be signed for one hour or just to look at a handful of properties. You do not need to be stuck with an agent you don't feel comfortable with.
