My family and I are transplants from Michigan.  During my working life I have enjoyed being a high school teacher ( in Muskegon, Michigan ) where I was the director of a very active speech and debate program.  Working with students gave me the opportunity to have  a positive impact on their lives and maybe a little contribution toward their adult lives!  It was a tremendously rewarding time and I have many fond memories of it.  I also hear from some of them as they have gone on in their careers, start families and become productive citizens !   From there I went into sales with Pitney Bowes ( the postage meter people ) and worked directly with businesses of all sizes.  Through hard work and applying the skills I had learned in my own debate experience I learned how to problem solve and find the best solution.  My hard work paid off and I was promoted to the position of Sales Manager.  While in that position I developed a small but effective training system for my sales reps.  That system, and the dedicated efforts of my reps, enabled us to become the top producing sales team in our region !  It was a proud day for our team and larger office !  After several additional promotions my wife and I started a non-profit adoption agency in San Diego.  We worked to find and match mothers-to-be with couples wishing to adopt.  The program focused on the needs of the birth moms and included free lifetime counseling.  For the adoptive couples it provided a chance to find the only thing missing in their lives - a family !  We still hear from many of these families and it will always be something which will stand out as a wonderful way to do the right thing for all concerned !  Very emotional. very worthwhile !
