Miami Springs is located in Miami-Dade County, just north of Miami International Airport and Virginia Gardens. It is known as Tree City, USA and one leisurely stroll through the densely tree-canopied streets will tell you why. There are trees shading all the sidewalks and streets so walking is always a pleasure. You can always find a tree in Miami Springs to shade you from our famous South Florida sun.
The city of Miami Springs was founded by the "Father of Naval Aviation," Glenn Hammond Curtiss and James Bright during the land boom of the 1920's. It was originally called Country Club Estates. Along with other Miami neighborhoods such as Coral Gables and Opa-Locka, Miami Springs was one of the first planned communities in the state of Florida. It had an intended theme to reflect Mexican architecture and atmosphere. Shortly before the city incorporated in 1926, it was renamed after a local spring which supplied most of Miami with its fresh water until the 1990's.
Wonder what the neighborhood "feel" is in Miami Springs? Think Mayberry, R.F.D. and that will pretty much set the mood. This city is mere minutes from everything Miami offers, but worlds away at the same time. We have a town square (or more aptly described as a circle) along the Circle and Westward Drive where a pumpkin patch allows the kids to pick the right gourd each fall for the holidays. There's a gazebo where musical concerts are often held, much to the delight of the residents. Fourth of July picnics? We have those too.
The pace is slower in Miami Springs. There's something to be said for curtailing rampant development. The "old town" feel and all it brings remains. It's one of the reasons Miami Springs residents love it here so much. In recent years the sitting mayor was relieved of his duties because of opposition to his proposed development plans.
Come visit Miami Springs and fall in love with it. You'll be glad you did.
