“I’m a poet, and every Special “Find…” deserves a story!
Nostalgia Cottage The screen door slams as a child dashes in one door then out another. Laughter echoes throughout the house as children play hide-‘n-seek on the lawn. Grown-ups sip iced tea in rockers on the wraparound porch. A gingham cloth drapes picnic tables where lemonade and cakes tempt nibbling from passersby. Nostalgia Cottage has lived a rich social history where friends and community gathered annually for various occasions. Built in 1908 by the well known Tanner family, she sits back from the road on approximately 3 acres. Freshly painted bright white, with new roof and significant infrastructural updates, she is well on her way to renovation. Her sturdy walls hold a history of warmth, love, and pride, obvious in the detail of some of the original features still remaining — oak flooring cut from the trees…
In bare feet, I pad from room to room on bright painted floors of pale green and white. Light fills this space, pouring through every window and door. I settle on the huge wraparound porch to read poems and stories written and inspired by current and previous owners of this wonderful Queen Anne Victorian cottage. Located in the historic district of Flat Rock, NC and featured in Martha Stewart Living and Country Home magazines, she was built in 1893 as a family retreat by a grandson of Governor Allston of SC. With some 1500 sq. ft., there are fireplaces in four of the rooms including the living room, a large studio, the master bedroom and a guest bedroom with windows so large you can step through them onto the summer porch. In the bath, a romantic claw foot tub perched on a raised platform has a relaxing view of the rear garden. The kitchen is roomy with original cast iron sink, huge window and pantry/office. The architectural detailings here are so rich with history – tall windows with old wavy glass, high ceilings, plaster walls, wide floor moldings, picture rail, heart pine floors and four sets of French doors opening onto wide porches. Outside, there are perennial gardens an historic barn and ample room to expand. Completely private, yet only three miles from downtown Hendersonville, you’ll find it easy to fall in love with this cottage – I did.

| An interview with several real estate agents prompted me to list with Brenda. However, she did so much more than 'list.' She met with us to lay the foundation for how she would present this house. She then spent time on the property to enable her to write a story of the home that would convey its unique character to buyers. The buyer approached her so functioned professionally as a dual agent.
