This area is rich in history and tradition. The Dimmick Inn has been the center of Milford for over a century, providing great food and a great atmosphere for all who visit. The refurbished Hotel Fauchere's opens its awnings soon, taking its place among the beautiful antique buildings of Milford. Grey Towers has been the center of tourism since John F. Kennedy made it a national historic landmark in 1963. Once inhabited by the Pinchot family, Grey Towers has recently been restored to its former brilliance in hope that the visitors will enjoy it. Gifford Pinchot, popular Pennsylvania governor and first Chief Forester, lived here with his wife Corenlia for decades. Come and here their story throughout the summer, and possibly run into James Pinchot! For more information please go to www.pinchot.org/gt or call 570-296-9630.
Another historical landmark is the Columns Museum. It contains many different kinds of artifacts, including its most prized piece, the flag which President Lincoln's head was placed on as he lay dying after he was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theater in 1865. There is a room dedicated to Charles Sanders Peirce, mathmematician, scientist, and founder of "pragmatism." The Hiawatha stagecoach, Native American artifacts, Civil War artifacts, historic farm tools and firearms, vintage gowns and uniforms, photo albums and old letters, musical instruments, kitchenware, along with special seasonal exhibits make the Columns Museum a must see!
