Get to Know Ken Verrett
Acorn Appraisal is a 25 year old real estate appraisal firm providing residential and commercial real estate appraisal services throughout the Houston/Fort Bend/Galveston MSA. Our clients include local and national financial institutions as well as individuals.
Our firm has a nine staff members. All have Major University degees, three with Masters degrees. All appraisers are associate members of either the Appraisal Institute working toward their designations, or members of the National Association of Realtors Appraisal Division.
Ken Verrett, the principal has Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Economics, and is a graduate of The Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He founded Acorn Appraisal in the 1980's after a career in the banking industry. Ken is recognized in the appraisal profession as an expert in business management and has been active for years in the appraisal profession assisting appraisers nationwide in improving their business. He writes a weekly column titled Runt Rants for the popular real estate blog Appraisal Scoop.

Certifications
Acorn serves the entire Houston/Fort Bend/Galveston MSA, a six county area surrounding Houston, Texas. We provide all traditional appraisal services: single family residential, multifamily residential, small to mid sized commercial property appraisals.
Acorn is one of three Texas appraisal firms authorized to provide multifamily appraisals for USDA tax incentive, tax credit, subsidzed rent programs. We travel throughout the state of Texas to perform those assignments.
In 2007 Acorn has collaborated with the Zaio Corporation to embark on an ambitious project to change the way the Appraisal Profession delivers its services to the community we serve. We have initiated a project to create a private data base of the 2 million single family residential houses in the Houston MSA and to apply the latest technology to appraise each of those residences and to constantly update and maintain that unique information for instaneous access whenever our Cients consider a loan request from the home owner.
We currently have a cadre of 35 photographers in the field each day photographing the properties in the Houston MSA and the data is being uploaded and merged with County Tax records and MLS sold. As of September 2007 we have approximately 750,000 records developed and we are adding to the data base at a rate of 50,000 records per week. Acorn expects to have the entire data base completed and operational by mid summer 2008.
The Zaio Project is also being implemented in all major metropolitan markets across the country. Nationwide we are adding 60,000 records to the data base each day, and the total records in our data base now exceed 8,000,000.
