Not happy with Top Producer (by agentpeter)

I was a Top Producer user, but gave it up a few years ago. There are a few things to consider before one signs on to any product. To me it should be about ME not about the company, and I always got the feeling that it was always about "Top Producer" and not about me as the agent. In fact, one small thing that really frustrated me, was that they had the blank space for "STATE" and "ZIP" even though I had filled in "Canada" as my country. The software could easily have been adjusted to accommodate the "province" and Postal Code once the Country was filled in. (By the way AR has the same error) When I called Top Producer in Richmond, BC, Canada, they said it was not important. So, I decided they weren't important to me! But what is even more important, is controlling your monthly costs as an agent. This fact underpins an entire Chapter in Gary Keller's book "SHIFT" --Top Producer used to be a program one could BUY and OWN, and then not hear from them for about a year, then pay a small fee for an upgrade. Now one has to pay monthly, which is excellent for Top Producer, but not good for controlling your expenses as an agent. This goes back to their company mentality which seems to put the company before the client. Now I use the card file system to organize my clients. I have several hundred, as well as agents who've been on the other side of deals, all of whom receive regular "touches" that are genuine. They take no more time than Top Producer, when one considers the learning curve, and I get complements on the genuineness of my communications, as well as repeat business and referrals. That is what should be the measure of an excellent system! Peter Veri Victoria BC Canada
