I don't normally write negative reviews for companies, but I felt compelled to do with my experience... more I don't normally write negative reviews for companies, but I felt compelled to do with my experience with SmartZip. The company pushes that they use nearly 300 different predictors to determine when homeowners are likely to sell. As I data junkie, I was absolutely intrigued! Their website looked great, the dashboard was clean/user friendly and the auto direct mailers were of high quality. They were also supposed to be running website ads in my targeted area. I began using SmartZip in January of 2013 and did not get the leads/responses as they promised. I did additional marketing to my SmartTarget List (the 20% most likely to list their home) in addition to the automailers they did every other month. One afternoon, I sat down with my list (several hundred) to see if I could figure out why I wasn't getting the response I had hoped for. To my surprise, some of my former sales were listed. Some included homes that sold just 6-12 months earlier and with the old owner's names. I then took a subset of my list and about 12% of the subset was bad data. All of these "personalized" mailers were going to the wrong homeowner as well as to an address that just had a new purchase. I notified SmartZip of the errors and got excuse after excuse and delay after delay. They promised they were looking into the issue and trying to figure out why my data was wrong. It was a 4 month process (and a very expensive monthly bill) to finally get my account cancelled. Even when I documented the examples of the incorrect data against public record, they claimed their system was correct. While SmartZip is an aesthetically pleasing website, their system is not any better than an agent picking their own farm area and sending mailers. I also asked multiple times for stats of my online ads or websites where the ads were placed...I never received that information. I doubt they ever posted the web ads as promised and as was folded into my contract price. I also recently stumbled across company reviews on GlassDoor.com and it is filled with complaint after complaint from their own employees about the company and poor employee work environment. It's a shame...great concept for a company, but it is founded on bad data which is the main driver for their product to actually work.
