The Best Reasons to Live in the Harrisburg, PA area I have lived in central PA all my life & I’ve been a Realtor in the Harrisburg area for my entire adult life. I have traveled to many other states & countries, but I have always returned home to central PA. This is why: THE WEATHER is not so extreme. We live on the right side of the Appalachian Mountains that block a lot of storms and bad weather. We have all 4 seasons & a growing season of 180 days! IT’S BEAUTIFUL with rolling hills, mountains, lakes & streams. We have State parks, great trout streams and the Susquehanna River. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. You can be in the city in a few minutes or you can be in the country in a few minutes. The city of Harrisburg is rich in history & culture. We have a Civil War Museum. IT’S FUN. We have Hershey Park, Chocolate World, Indian Echo Caverns, City Island (home of the Senator’s baseball team), a riverboat "Pride of the Susquehanna", Hollywood Casino and many public & private golf courses. GREAT FOOD. We have many restaurants from pizza places to fine dining & everything in between. There are also a wide variety of ethnic restaurants to choose from. CONVENIENT LOCATION. We are only 1 ½ hours from Baltimore, 2 hours to Washington, DC; 2 hours to Philadelphia; and 4 hours to Pittsburgh or New York City. CHARACTER & HISTORY abounds in the many SMALL TOWNS that make up this area. GOOD ACCESS. We have an airport, train station, bus station, taxi services & a highway system that serves as a beltway around the area. MANY LEVELS OF EDUCATION. There are many choices for good day care, good public & private schools, and local colleges. HEALTH CARE OPTIONS.
